Once upon a time, Rani Putul or Queen dolls were immensely popular and still happens to be one of the jewels of Howrah. This doll may have been inspired by Queen Victoria and the country's love for her empathy, according to art researchers.
The structure of the Queen dolls of Howrah, is prepared in a two-faced mould and then fired. These dolls do not have legs and are clad in a ghaghra (long skirts). The curls on the head are crowned at times; which furthur adds to the human inspiration behind the art form.
They still hold their charm today, because of the history, because of its unique identity and simplicity.
